About the Author
June Parsons purchased her first computer, an Apple II+, in 1981 and quickly became fluent in BASIC, dBASE II, Lotus 123, WordStar, and a variety of accounting programs. The next year she opened a successful small computer retail store with Dan Oja that also offered software instruction to children and adults. Dr. Parsons taught at the university level for more than 20 years. She holds a doctorate in Educational Technology and was certified by the ICCP in 1995. Dr. Parsons began writing and creating educational software for Course Technology in 1992. She contributed to the Windows for Business and Illustrated Series and developed the New Perspectives, e-Course, and Practical series. She works via the Internet with a team of highly skilled media specialists and desktop publishers located in various states and provinces.

An esteemed professional and respected author, Dan Oja, along with June Parsons, purchased an Apple II+ in 1981 and quickly became fluent in BASIC, dBASE II, Lotus 123, WordStar, and a variety of accounting programs. The next year, he and Dr. Parsons opened a successful small computer retail store that offered software instruction to children and adults. With Dr. Parsons, Mr. Oja began writing and creating educational software for Course Technology in 1992. Together, they contributed to the leading success of the Windows for Business and Illustrated Series. They also developed the New Perspectives, e-Course, and Practical series. Today, Mr. Oja's and Dr. Parson's team of highly skilled media specialists and desktop publishers located in various states and provinces work together via the Internet to deliver exceptional texts.

Mr. Patrick Carey received his M.S. in Biostatistics from the University of Wisconsin, where he worked as a researcher designing and analyzing clinical studies. He co-authored his first textbook on using Excel as a statistical tool. Today, Mr. Carey has authored or co-authored more than 20 leading academic and trade texts for the software industry.

Ms. Carol DesJardins spent 25 years in the private sector as a programmer, systems analyst and eventually Chief Information Officer. During that time, she honed her skills with Excel as an analysis tool. She transitioned her knowledge to the classroom and has taught several applications and programming courses. Ms. DesJardins co-authored her first textbook on Excel. In addition to writing, she continues to teach at St. Clair County Community College.

this is a very funny book. but i still like Dad Says He Saw You At The Mall better. sparling's way of writing is brilliant. but "Hush Up and Listen Stinky Poo Butt" seams ot have A SUBJECT (OH NO!!!), so it seems a little bit more limited than Dad Says...

Sparling, A Toronto-based author, writes with heart, illuminating the deep struggles and fears of dealing with the precious lives of children and the challenges of marriage. His prose style is straightforward and yet non-traditional in its simplicity.

Sharks ... evil and primitive creatures charging from the depths to attack their prey with savage ferocity, or beautiful and efficient predators? It is difficult to separate the popular myths from the truth about sharks because, quite simply, there are still considerable gaps in our knowledge of how they live.

In Shark: A Photographer's Story, Jeremy Stafford-Deitsch helps to fill some of these gaps. He presents here the results of three years' dedicated effort to record the appearance and natural behavior of as many different shark species as possible. To photograph sharks in their natural environment he journeyed from the coral atolls of the Red Sea and the South Pacific, to the vast open ocean off Hawaii and the Californian coast, and then on to Florida and the warm tropical waters of the Bahamas.

His story is an exciting blend of travel narrative and natural history, and we share the full range of his feelings as he encounters his quarry ... exhilaration as a massive, rarely photographed whale shark passes slowly overhead like a spaceship, and sudden horror at the realization that the frenzied gestures of a grey reef shark are the final stages of a serious threat display. He swims with oceanic whitetips escorting a school of pilot whales, joins a huge group of shoaling hammerheads, and photographs feeding great whites at extremely close quarters.

Used but in good condition

When I bought this I was a bit skeptical of the condition the seller described but I was pleasantly surprised! The book itself was in perfect condition. The only flaw was the cover which showed some wear which is why I only gave it 4 stars.

A Shark Lover's Dream

With more pictures than you can wave a frozen tuna at and enough detail about the adventures behind their creation to make Cousteau jealous, this tome on the wolves of the sea will satisfy the shark fan in your life. The chapter on the Great White Shark was my particular favorite with pictures lifelike enough to make me reconsider my upcoming dive trip to South Africa. In fact, the best compliment I can give this book is that the nightmares I have about sharks are illustrated with pictures from this book!

For Shark Enthusiasts A Must

Scuba divers will be interested in Mr. Stafford-Deitsch's opening essay in which he discusses why he made all the dives in this book ALONE, in violation of the first rule of diving. His discussion of his decision to do this is certainly provocative.
The photographs are splendid and equally so is the range of shark species he finds and photographs.
Although I was intially interested in the chapter on Great Whites, which is excellent, I was left breathless at reading and seeing his adventures off Sanganeb Atoll in the Red Sea. He happened upon a rarely observed schooling formation of Hammerheads and was the first to photograph them.
I no longer have my copy as a student of mine a few years ago was so taken by it when I loaned it to her, I had to "spread the wealth."
A wonderful book.

Kannan is a regular speaker at IOUG, VMworld, VMware Partner Exchange, Oracle Open World, EMC World, NetApp Insight, SNIA, and he is also an evangelist of Oracle technologies. Kannan has been recognized by Oracle as an Oracle ACE, and by VMware as CTO Ambassador and vExpert. Kannan holds a Master’s degree in Computer Applications and a Master’s degree in Business Administration focused on technology.

Don Sullivan, an Oracle Certified Master, a vExpert, and a VMware CTO Ambassador joined VMware in June of 2010 as a Systems Engineer Database Specialist and Oracle Solution Architect for the entirety of the Americas. In that capacity, he has worked with numerous customers and partners focused on the proposition of running Oracle, SQL, and other high-workload systems on vSphere. Presently, the Product Line Marketing Manager for Business Critical Applications at VMware, Don is a frequent speaker at conferences focused on databases and virtualization. After finishing his Master’s thesis at Arizona State University in 1996, Don focused on logical database design with Sybase TxSql, and he moved to Denver to work as a contract DBA. Don subsequently worked for AT&T as a contract DBA with both Sybase and Oracle. In 1998, he joined Oracle and Oracle University and became a Senior Principal Instructor for Oracle University, focusing on server products. He taught all server-based classes for 6 years, which included all New Features classes, OPS/RAC, Backup & Recovery, Performance Tuning, SQL Tuning, Data Guard, and the Data Server Internals (DSI) classes from 7.3 through 10g. He is a co-author of the Oracle Certified Master Practicum, and he is an original Oracle Certified Master. He also co-authored a performance-tuning class text for MySQL. In 2004, he became a consultant with Oracle’s Advanced Technology Services (ATS) and spent the next 18 months involved in a number of proofs of concept (POCs) and other post-sales engagements. In 2005, Don joined Polyserve Corporation as the primary customer-facing Oracle Solution Architect. Although his role was primarily pre-sales, he was involved with all Polyserve customers who had Oracle implementations at every step of their implementation, both pre- and post-sales. In 2007, Polyserve was acquired by HP, and he stayed with HP. In that capacity, Don spent the majority of 2009 through 2013 delivering seminars and workshops to large customer groups focused on Oracle over Network File System (NFS). In 2010, Don joined VMware as a customer-facing Systems Engineer Database Specialist with both Sales and later PSO. In addition, Don is also a project manager for many projects to include cross-corporate functional stress tests. Finally, Don manages the virtualizing applications sub-track at VMworld and VMware’s series of select database workshops.

This is the go to book for anyone who has anything to do with Architecture or Administration of either a VMware Virtual Infrastructure hosting Oracle Applications & Databases OR an Oracle DBA who wants to learn about the shift in the industry for running Business Critical Databases. While the DBA learns the art of adopting the highly scalable and resilient Virtual Infrastructure, the VMware Admin/Architect knows the Do's & the Don'ts of Virtualising Transaction & Resource hungry Databases.

Apart from the tips and tricks, you also learn about handling objections, getting the required support and demystifying the FUD in the market about virtualising databases in general. This angle of the book would help consultants, pre-sales and sales professionals involved in large scale datacenter transformation & virtualization as well.

Virtualization is the next big thing in Oracle databases and there are lots of contradicting and confusing material in the web, both from technical front and marketing.. With Oracle being synonymous with database, VMWare is synonymous with virtualization. This text from Kannan and Don will help in you in understanding Oracle specific virtualization tricks.

This book is targeted someone with Oracle Database experience and helps to virtualize the databases with vSphere. If you are VMware guy looking to learn internals of VMWare, you might be disappointed. I found this book to be very helpful in the broad area of database virtualization as well as the specific concepts pertaining to Oracle running on virtualized infrastructure.
Virtualization was a pretty new concept at the company I work for and almost every time that I was confused about a concept or having a problem, this is the book that I reach for. I have spoken with many people over the past few years who thought they understood these concepts but in reality they did not. With this book I have been able to develop a thorough understanding of VSphere and how it is the perfect platform for Oracle. I was particularly impressed with the chapter(12) that covered case studies as sometimes it helps to know what other successful companies have done. I have been an Oracle DBA for 20 years and now I feel comfortable with virtualizing my entire Oracle footprint.

About the Author
World leading authority on film and contemporary trends in moving image. An expert in field of music videos and their creators. In 1996 he founded the digital film festival onedotzero, cited by The Guardian as 'probably the most influential film festival of the early 21st century'. He currently runs his own creative studio, V.I.A. developing pioneering moving image projects. He has produced and commissioned over 40 digital films, devised two tv series on pioneering digital filmmakers, and produced a pioneering hybrid VJ/live film performance with the Light Surgeons, which toured internationally to rave reviews. Previous books include The End of Celluloid (RotoVision), and Motion Blur (Laurence King).

Useful insights into modern concepts

The book deals with some fairly standard shooting techniques and equipment uses. Creativity being the main focal point is inspiring and compelling. At first I thought there was too much emphasis on computer graphics, as this is out of reach to most budget conscious filmmakers, but the author is graphics oriented. The links to the vids shot by the directors were very useful and only dated a couple of years, but were great examples of what's currently some of the top directors' visions. This made up for the bulk of animated video reviews which for the most part were excellent. The book is a fine insight into the minds of some of the finest young directors today.

Got a different version

I ordered this a few weeks ago with a few other books, they arrived in time.

I received a different version of the book, it has another cover and talks about other directors, not the ones on this version, amazon should be more careful about this.

The version I received is ok but I really needed the version pictured here, thats why they get 2 stars
