Growing up as a African-America Christian; throughout my childhood years in sunday school and church I wondered why everyone in the bible was white. I wondered why in sunday school our bible coloring lessons we always needed a white or yellow crayon and not a brown crayon. I wondered why the pastor always called us "Gentiles". I remember watching the "Ten Commandments" and seeing a white Moses and white Israelites. "Hebrews to Negroes" has shaken the foundation of everything I have been taught for 40 years. I always felt inside that black people in America were "God's Chosen People" from reading the Bible, especially in Deuteronomy 28:16-68. In Deuteronomy 28 it describes the Curses of Israel and it only fits what blacks have gone through for what seems to be an eternity. Daniel 9:9-15 proves that the Children of Israel DID in fact disobey Gods commandments. Therefore they STILL should be going through the Curses of Israel. This Book proves without a shadow of a doubt that the REAL biblical Israelites were Black (People of Color) and not the European Ashkenazi or European Sephardic Jews we see today in America, Europe and Israel. There is no way that Black Jews make up 1% of all the Jews worldwide. Thank you so much for putting this book out. This book HANDS DOWN lays to rest all those (European Jews, Catholics, Muslims) who teach and believe that real Jews are white. This book put chills in my spine and made me realize how much Black America has been tricked and deceived. After reading this book, I see now why It says "Wake up Black America". I am more awake now then ever and I will spread the word to others now that I have read this book.

It's a Good wake up call

This book a good read of someone who has come to knowledge about the truth of an identity, and the history that has made us forget. It is a book that no doubt took a considerable amount of time to complete, and which is well written and thought out. It is a blend of a few different styles; Opinion, Persuasion, and Historical accounts with analysis. It contains the Authors personal beliefs, which make it both compelling, and honestly, challenging to read if you don't accept the same basic premises of faith.

For those of you who do not take the New Testament in a high regard, as you question the validity of all of it or most of it, this book is not entirely for you. However, if you want to understand the perspective of those who accept a Messianic return, and you want to know the evidences provided for faith in the concept, then this book will enlighten you.

I respect the brother for his opinions and views. I disagree with many of the assertions, mostly based on the ideology of the Christ/Messiah and the return, and those statements that are made as a matter of fact when they are opinion. But in general, I appreciated the historical analysis, and the thought that it took to write the book.

I believe that this is a good book for those that are just now coming to knowledge, and those that want to further understand the role of Israelites today. It is most specifically geared to those who are awakening from a christian perspective, and are searching for an identity. Personally, I think that the book maintains a certain level of acceptance of church doctrine promoted by the oppressors, however it is an obvious step in the right direction. I would absolutely invite the author to dinner to discuss the entirety of our differences, as I can tell that the information is well researched and reflected upon.

As with any presentation of knowledge, we must question everything we all say and hold as fact, and I would impress upon the readers to verify the information presented here. I think that the best way forward in the community, is critical inquiry, and diligent study.

A Must Read!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about our history as a people, our current state, and where we are headed if we don't collectively change our ways to be obedient to God. I only hope more people become more interested in these topics and make changes in their lives and in those of their children. Shalom and God bless!

Enlightening read!!!

Kamal has been able to distill all the fundamentals of development using agile into this brilliantly written book. The real life scenarios and the parallelism is very significant towards shifting towards an agile mind set. I found this book to be an important accessory for the experienced practicing agilists or agilists-to be. I have been recommending it to all the scrum masters, developers and product owners in my organization as a great way to get inspired. A must read!

This meticulously researched social history should be welcomed by specialists in British and European women's history. Vickery (British women's history, Univ. of London) challenges the standard argument that once the industrial revolution took production out of the home, women's lives were marginalized in the domestic sphere. Using the letters, diaries, and account books of more than 100 women from the "genteel" classes, she theorizes that women's activities actually expanded as they involved themselves in new areas of community life. Indeed, she concludes that the struggles of the Victorian suffragettes may have stemmed not from a sense of oppression but from a desire to expand the gains of their Georgian predecessors. Unfortunately, Vickery's insistence on proving her provocative thesis overwhelms the richness of the descriptive material she presents: there is good information here on household management, servants, material culture, shopping and consumption, and female attitudes on courtship, pregnancy, motherhood, and child rearing. The Gentleman's Daughter

Amanda Vickery's book is about the life of genteel (note that genteel does not equal aristocratic) women in the 18th and early part of the 19th century. It is divided into seven chapters that roughly coincide with major events and duties in a lady's life (courtship, marriage, motherhood, householding, shopping and entertainment). Vickery's thesis is that women were not marginalized in society during the 18th century, and did not operate in separate spheres leading up to the Victorian era. (She does not touch the Victorian era at all.) She proves this point well by sharing anecdotes from letters and books, newspapers and prints. But the book is also littered with jewels of information about all aspects of female life.

My favorite chapter was that on childbirth and motherhood. There is a really fascinating excerpt on how midwives were slowly replaced by "male midwives," and then by physicians. "Ladies of quality" in the 18th and 19th centuries are given the short end of the stick as mothers. The belief persists that they were rarely invested in their children's lives; this is based mainly on the fact that many did not breast feed and apparently were too busy leading very busy lives to bother with their children. (If that is the criteria, then God only knows how mothers today would rate.) Vickery proves this completely wrong, which is gratifying, to say the least.

Vickery's book can be slow-going at times due to the large number of citations that she makes in it, but that is the nature of an academic work. It is also full of interesting tidbits; for example, there was a ladies' debating society in the late 1700s which, among other things, debated whether a woman pledging obedience to her husband in her wedding vows required her to always follow his orders. It is definitely more in-depth in its material than many other books, so if you enjoy delving into history, this is for you.

Academic but interesting and enlightening

This book reminds me of reading someone's doctoral dissertation--but that isn't meant to be an insult, just a comment on the writing style (academic). We are introduced to real women and their real situations by way of their letters and diaries. It is full of very interesting stories of a few related women in 18th century England. My only wish would be that the book could have been written to include women from other areas in England--really just more women in general. I appreciate the author's work in this under-researched area and hope it inspires more research in the future.
I have long wished that I could have lived in Jane Austen's world (with epidurals). But after reading this I realize that I would rather keep my appliances and modern medicine and my legal rights. I appreciated this book because it broke me of my misconceptions about any kind of "romantic" life of the women of this "almost leisure" class, as another reviewer called it. They were at the mercy of their husbands, their social situation and fate. Very thought provoking for a Jane Austen fan like myself.

All that a history book should be

I will admit that I was given this book by a dear friend, but the gift arrived at one of those amazingly serendipitous moments when everything in one's intellectual life seems to point in a single direction. During the past two years I have been rather single-minded in my pursuit of English literature of the 18th and 19th centuries, and first on my list of "keepers" are the novels written by such figures as Fanny Burney, Maria Edgeworth, Ann Radcliffe, and of course, Jane Austen. Thus, as you can imagine, Ms. Vickery's amazing feat of scholarship has been a more than welcome discovery. At turns both light-hearted and astoundingly detailed, it does just what a history book should do, in my estimation, and that is bring the past to life. Part of the fascination of history is, no doubt, that we can see how very strange and remote another time is, but how wonderful to find a work that so adroitly shows how very much we have in common with an earlier time, and in my case, brings the experiences known only through novels to full and meaningful life. I especially appreciate the fact that the author is at pains to point out just how at odds the evidence is with accepted feminist history; this somewhat contrary approach is altogether convincing. But the highest praise I can give from my perspective as a non-historian is that The Gentleman's Daughter (I cannot help but wonder if the title does not echo Elizabeth Bennet, but I may be, at present, too dazzled by Miss Austen to settle upon any other conclusion) is dazzling and entertaining, and I beg my more scholarly companions in reading to excuse the use of the suspect term.

In honor of Proposition 8 going before the Supreme Court, I decided to dedicate the month of April to reading LGBT books. This one was the first that I stumbled upon. I read other reviews on the book, as I usually do, before diving into this one. Some complain about the violence in the book. Initially, I had the same reaction. However, if you read it closely, the author is teaching a vital lesson here. Domestic violence within the LGBT commmunity is real and often overlooked. Those in such relationships should not feel that since they are same-sex that it is an equal playing field and that it wasn't that serious. That's what I took from that. Also, I loved the fact that the title could not have been better chosen. This book is actually a collection of stories. Each story is that of a different woman. Every single lesbian relationship/encounter/perspective/desires that you can think of is in this book. I'm an avid believer that we are weak as a people because of all our self-division. This book nails this as well. A few characters question the point of labels (stud, femme, tranny, etc.); I loved that it went that deep. Furthermore, I love how this book reads. It reads like a diary. Each story sounds so real. All of the lesbian-oriented books that I've ever read (excluding Anais Nin), are allll erotic. I know that is not all that being a lesbian consists of and I'm grateful that a contemporary author has finally captured the reality of such romances. Again, I enjoyed it and recommend it to all--even if simply for a deeper understanding into this lifestyle.

Loved this book

I read this book with one intention, to understand a culture that was different from my own. I have many lesbian friends and I wanted to have a deeper understanding of them, and their relationships. What I found in this book was beautiful. Every story was different. Every story helped me to look at the world differently. I felt the characters pains. I felt their struggles. I felt the love and passion that they had for their relationships. I thank the author for giving the world an inside look into a culture that many are curious about but are scared to look at and understand. Great job. I would definitely read more books from this author.

Holiday Magic---Spellbinding

As a child, I grew up listening to, and looking forward to, the installments of this story every evening between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I sat glued to the floor in the front of my parents' radio; I did not move or make a sound, because I did not want to miss anything or lose my privilege to listen to the "grown-ups' radio." I am so glad they have released it in a way that people can return to this magic land!

A Wonderful Christmas Surprise!

My children have loved this series since they were very young but during our moves we lost the tapes. So to find it on Amazon and have it for Christmas was a great surprise for my kids who are now grown up! It brought back a lot of great memories and the kids plan to continue listening to it for Christmases to come! Thank you for having this rare find available on Amazon!
